Tangerine Tango

We know that you were all holding your breath just waiting for Pantone to announce its 2012 Color of the Year. The long (well, year long) wait is over and “Tangerine Tango” has been announced as the winner of the prestigious honor.
Chosen because of its “sophisticated and dramatic undertones,” Tangerine Tango (Pantone 17-1463) is a continuation of last year’s winner, Honeysuckle (Pantone 18-2120). The 2011 winner was said to be “inspiration to face life’s everyday troubles with verve and vigor,” with Tangerine Tango building off of that by giving an “energy charge” to move forward. Pretty dramatic language, but these people takes their colors seriously.
The process of choosing the color of the year is quite an ordeal. Pantone employees look the world over for color influences in media, music, and art, searching for the hues that most affect people. With the digital age well underway, they also look at designs created electronically.

While all that sounds good to a fashion designer, or a makeup artist, why in the world would us geeks care? Because Pantone is still the standard when it comes to the hurdle of color matching across devices to create uniformity in design. If you are using anAdobe product in a professional capacity, odds are you are using the Pantone pallet in some of your projects.
For those unfamiliar with Pantone, the company started out in the 1950′s as a printing house. Upon hiring a Hofstra grad name Lawrence Hebert, the company began work on creating a color standard that would guarantee uniformity across different devices.
If you have ever experienced picking out a color for paint or created a design on your computer, only to have the final product look completely different than what you saw, the Pantone color matching process is the answer to that.

Accessories...like bags

 Nail colors
and even interior designs wear the tangerine tango

And one weekend before the year 2011 ended, I had a 'thrifting' session and spotted this chiffon dress, in a length that I know I can and will wear several times and in a color that was pleasing to my eye.

Then I decided to wear it on a Sunday (the 22nd of January) to hear mass, and then I realized it was a perfect match to the PANTONE COLOR OF THE YEAR: my dress is in TANGERINE TANGO.

Change - A Constant Thing

There's a major change on the link to my online shop at FB.  I changed not just the link but as well as my shop's name into something that I used to describe I Dress Up.  The new name now is ''Chic Vintage'', as I feel that just by such name, it will give an instant idea to my buyers on what my shop is all about.  It sells ''vintage'' pieces, clothing in particular; though technically, most of the items sold cannot be considered vintage yet since the clothing that I sell may be just 10 - 20 years old.  Click here for the new change.

Well, change is constant.   We must embrace that change. Please support Chic Vintage.

The Scarf Dress

Fashion Lesson:
What is a Scarf?
scarf is a piece of fabric worn around the neck, or near the head or around the waist for warmth, cleanliness, fashion or for religious reasons. They can come in a variety of different colours.
The scarf became a real fashion accessory by the early 19th Century for both men and women. By the middle of the 20th Century scarfs became one of the most essential and versatile clothing accessories for both men and women.  In recent years, scarfs have experienced a revival.
Printed scarves are additionally offered internationally through high fashion design houses such as BurberryMissoniAlexander McQueen,Cole HaanChanelEtroLanvinHermèsNicole MillerFerragamoEmilio PucciDiorFendiLouis Vuitton and Prada, for example.
There are three basic scarf shapes: square, triangular and rectangular.
The leading manufacturer of fashion scarves used today is China with India, Hong Kong and Indonesia close behind. The most common materials used to make fashion scarves are silk, fleece, pashmina and cashmere.

As I remembered that I kept an oversized square Fila scarf that I thrifted 2 or 3 years ago, I dug on closet and decided to play dress-up with it.
Here's what I have come up.

Fashion Experiment:
How to Wear a Scarf as a Dress

My version is of the simplest styling.  I just put on some safety pins on one shoulder and at the back and instantly had turned the scarf  into a dress.

about the outfit:
scarf - thrifted (Fila) / top - random / PVC shoes - MSE / flower ring - The Little Black Market / silver magnet bangle and studded headband - gifted by mom / sunglasses - E-bay

Here's what an actual scarf dress look like (from the worldwideweb):

Fashion bloggers do have their version of the scarf dress.

Escape to Manila - The Outfits

There was no fun dressing during this trip.  My clothes were all about comfort and convenience and of course considering that it should cover-up more skin to beat the possible extreme heat.
Anyway, I took advantage of a mini fun shoot courtesy of my cutie photographer (remember my niece? the little three-year old?) every morning, during our 2-day vacation.

First morning,
here's what I wore  indoor ( inside the room of the condotel where we stayed)
 about the outfit:
abstract tiered dress top - G. Fiesta / blazer - NCCC Mall, Davao / black twill short (underneath the top) - random / yellow patent leather hybrid flats - Hammerhead / necklace - Aizilym / sunglasses - SM Naga City / watch - Fossil
Then transformed my outdoor outfit into this (see below) while strolling around Luneta Park and posing in front of Dr. J. Rizal's monument
I just added my spandex floral print top over my abstract tiered dress top, then threw in my trusted black leggings.

Second morning:
my indoor outfit
 about the outfit:
spandex graffiti dress top - bazaar find / black chiffon top - I Dress Up / yellow patent leather hybrid flats - Hammerhead / sunglasses - Fossil
I only brought one pair of shoes to save weight and space in my baggage.  My sister booked us with light fare tickets. :-(

Here's my outdoor outfit on the second day.
Just put on my plaid leggings then off we went to hear mass at San Agustin Church in Intramuros.

Escape to Manila

While "everyone"-else were flying - flocking - to Cebu for the Sinulog celebration, I packed my bags and had a short vacay to Manila with my sister, cousin and her family.  We did miss the Sinulog celebration, but there was no intention to skip it since we just followed to some flight schedule (of my cousin's husband's arrival).
To keep this story more interesting, let me show you ladies to where we have been going over that two-nights-two-days weekend escape.

To those who hail from Manila, can you guess these places?
