Not the Lucky Color

We attended mass this morning for the first Sunday of the year.  and I wore blue.  Later, at 10:00 a.m., we watched a local TV show and it was mentioned there, according to a Feng Shui master, that the lucky color of the year is Blue, particularly LIGHT BLUE, not dark blue, not midnight nor electric nor cobalt.  Sad, light blue is not my type.

still couldn't get enough of the polka dots

Ode to Levi's and to my Mom

This post is a thanksgiving for my mom!
Thanks for the large shirt which i wore as a dress and to the Levi's handy travel bag.

Yesterday was the very f1rst day of January 2011, and as usual, my family went for a stroll (less shopping this time) at SM since we cannot decide where to go aside from the malls.

We went to Powerbooks and scanned through the pages of our favorite reads.
My dad was reading on sports (tennis) books and my mom on cookbooks.
I flipped through again the famous JM books. For now, i want to be so addicted to John Maxwell's thoughts.  But i do not want to afford yet his books. For the meantime, as i am saving, i'm now following his blog.

Vintage Dreams

Fashion Lesson 102:

VINTAGE  CLOTHING

... is a generic term for new or second hand garment originating from a previous era.

Generally speaking, clothing which was produced before the 1920s is referred to as antique clothing and clothing from the 1920s to 1980s is considered v i n t a g e.
Retro, short for retrospective, usually refers to clothing that imitates the style of a previous era. Clothing produced more recently is usually called modern or contemporary fashion. Opinions vary on these definitions.
Most vintage clothing has been previously worn, but a small percentage of pieces have not. These are often old warehouse, or more valuable than those that have been worn, especially if they have their original tags. (via en.wikipedia)

Reasons that some people are attracted to vintage clothing include:
  • Unique or almost unique: most items were custom made, and others were manufactured in small quantities only.
  • Good quality: they were designed to be worn for years and passed on to other family members, so they were made of robust materials, well cut and well made, with generous seam allowances and hems which allow for alterations and custom fit.
  • Fine materials: many of the unusual older fabric types are no longer manufactured, or are now prohibitively expensive.
  • Value for money: garments generally sell for a cost far below similar new modern garments.
  • History: an appreciation of the past, the roles of previous generations and the skills of respected designers.
  • Detailing: hand finishing, unusual buttons, hand embroidery, handmade lace, crochet, applique, beading and other techniques.
  • Style: vintage clothing has traditionally been the favourite of creative personalities because it offers an enormously wide range of imaginative styles.
This is my vintage dress (but can't tell what era it is from) bought at a local market near our place for Php 10.00, and it still has its original tag and with extra buttons!  It has gold chains on the pocket flaps and gold buttons, cinched on the waist and the skirt is pleated.

Orignally ankle-length and with long sleeves but had it re-worked to give it a retro twist.

The thought of finally showing my face (in public)
makes me shiver (it's as if i'm watching my fave suspense films)...
Am i exaggerating?
Sort of, but i guess i'd now begin, bit by bit, uploading my pics with my face on it.
And it's 2011! Perhaps one of my n.y. resolution?
